Whangamata has its famous ocean beach, running from the harbour mouth in the north to the Otahu Estuary at the southern end of town.
Go to tide times...
Four kilometres of white sands and clear Pacific water where you can relax and swim, surf abd boogie board.
Safe swimming spots also abound along the edge of the harbour, and in the estuary, both popular with family groups, as the large expanses of shallow calm waters let children play in places where parental care is easier.
The northern part of the beach is where the Surf Club is situated, and regular patrols ensure a safe holiday for swimmers.
There is water ski-ing in the harbour, and windsurfing too when the wind is up, and it is also a great harbour to explore in a kayak or small dingy.
